Fairhope Municipal Pier from the Bluff. Before the Causeway and Bayway were constructed, ferry boats transported people and automobiles from the Eastern Shore to Mobile.

Fairhope was settled in 1894 and the City of Fairhope was founded in 1908 along the shores of Mobile Bay and has grown from its 500 founding residents to more than 12,000 residents. According to local history, Fairhope's name was chosen because one of the original colonists believed that the settlement had a "fair hope" of success. Rich in history and culture, the City of Fairhope is a popular tourist attraction and is a thriving community in Baldwin County. The area in Baldwin County from Spanish Fort to Point Clear is commonly referred to as the "Eastern Shore". You may learn more about the City of Fairhope by clicking here.
